Former Alabama TE Jahleel Billingsley is visiting Texas

Like top defender Drew Sanders, Alabama Crimson Tide entered NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday. On Friday, his instagram source revealed that a growing senior with two years of eligibility remaining is visiting the Texas Longhorns in Austin.

The Chicago native has a clear connection to the Texas program – he was recruited by Longhorns special teams coach / coordinator Jeff Banks as a recruiting class member in 2019 and had a breakthrough season in 2020 under Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian when he was on the offensive. Alabama Coordinator.

According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, Billingsley had 18 catches at 287 yards and three landings in 2020 and 17 catches at 257 yards and three landings in the uneven 2021 campaign.

In a more consistent game, the 6’4,230-pounder could be an NFL prospect, but for Texas, Billingsley would be a proven contributor to the position after Cade Brewer’s graduation and the transfer of Jared Wiley. As Wiley leaves the TCU program, Texas lacks experience in this position, even though there is plenty of young talent, so employees refused to sign a tight end in recruitment class in 2022.

The Longhorns missed some recent targets on the transfer portal, but Billingsley’s landing on Forty Acres makes a lot of sense for both sides.
