Do karate injuries keep you out of the mat? Focus on nutrition for faster recovery

To hurt them sucks. When karate is your FAVORITE, the need to take time off due to injury can be an unbelievable disappointment.

But guess what? YOU can speed up your recovery. You just have to be smart.

What you eat can make a big difference in your recovery from an injury. Nutrition is a key component not only in your performance in karate, but also in your recovery from, um, not so great side effects of practicing martial arts.

You can recover from this injury much faster if you follow certain nutritional guidelines.

Here is a quick summary of injury recovery after injury:

  • Eat plenty of calories! Healing requires fuel. This is not the time for weight loss diets.
  • Eat plenty of quality lean proteinsuch as eggs, meat, legumes, protein powder.
  • Eat quality fats. Amazing options to reduce inflammation include nuts, seeds, avocados, fish and fish oils, and olive and flaxseed oils.
  • Eat more fiber, less processed carbohydratessuch as whole grains (oats, rice, quinoa).
  • Eat a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables.
  • Choose as few processed versions of food as possible. Consider reducing junk food and fast food and replacing it with healthier options. This will ensure enough nutrients for healing.

Focusing on the diet will completely change the rate of recovery. And the faster you recover, the faster you can go back to the mats and kick your ass.
