NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 3: World Athletic Woman of the Year Anju Bobby George today expressed the pleasure of receiving her acclaimed trophy from Adlet J Sumariwall, a member of the World Athletics Council and President of the Indian Athletics Federation, at the Lalit Hotel here. “It’s amazing to hold,” she said.
Wednesday’s World Athletics Awards 2021, when Anju Bobby George was named Woman of the Year, was a virtual event. Mr. Sumariwalla, who attended the World Athletics Council meeting in Monaco, brought the trophy home to be handed over to Anja. The main guest of the ceremony was the President of the Indian Olympic Association Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra.
The bronze medalist at the 2003 World Championships in Long Jump from the World Athletics Championships awarded the trophy that she was more determined to promote gender equality in sport, especially in India, thanks to global honors.
“The award is not the culmination of the journey, but a reminder that much more work needs to be done in the coming years,” she said.
Mr Sumariwalla said the immense respect for Anju Bobby George in world athletics circles was visible to all.
“As her colleague from the Athletic Federation of India, I was so proud when Anju was honored. She has already done a great job and will be inspired to contribute to the development of sports in our country, “he said.
It is well known that Anju Bobby George is actively involved in this sport. In 2016, she opened a training academy for young girls, where the talent of the world medalist under 20 Shaili Singh was honed. AFI’s Senior Vice President also mentors schoolgirls for future leadership positions in the sport.
